Introduction of Pushkar

Pushkar, the holy city is located just about 11 km from Ajmer. Along the picturesque Pushkar Lake lies the town of Pushkar with religious significance. Pushkar is one of the important pilgrimage city for Hindus. The main attraction of Pushkar is the Pushkar Lake and the temple of God Brahma. The Hindu devotees believe that no pilgrimage is considered complete without a dip in the holy Pushkar lake. The climate of Pushkar is moderate. In Summers, the temperature is around 38.1º Celsius and in winters it is around 5.5º Celsius. Hindi, Rajasthani, Marwari and English are the common languages which are spoken here.

History of Pushkar

Pushkar is an important Hindu pilgrimage centre. This city is believed to have been created by God Brahma, the creator of the Universe in the Hindu religion. The only temple of God Brahma is also situated in Pushkar. This city is the most famous pilgrimage city like Varanasi or Puri. The Hindu devotees believe that it is essential to visit Pushkar at least once in the lifetime. Pushkar has become famous in the world due to its Pushkar Festival which takes place in the month of November.

 
Tourist Attractions in Pushkar 

The main tourist attraction in Pushkar is the Pushkar Lake. This lake is believed to have been created by God Brahma himself. There are about 400 temples and 52 Ghaats in Pushkar which are located on the banks of the Pushkar Lake. The only temple of Lord Brahma is situated in Pushkar thus making Pushkar an important pilgrimage city for Hindus.

Festivals in Pushkar
Pushkar is also the venue of one of the country's most colourful cattle fairs - the Pushkar Festival. Pushkar Festival takes place in the month of November when the whole of Pushkar is transformed into a spectacular fair ground. During this festival thousands of pilgrims come to bath in the holy water of Pushkar lake and the biggest cattle and camel markets take place here where farmers, breeders and camel traders buy and sell. During this festival there is horse dealing, camel racing, cattle trading and colourful festivities. This annual fair is an unforgettable event when the entire small town of Pushkar is visited by over lakhs of animals and tourists. The Rajasthan Tourist Development Corporation (RTDC) has also promoted the festival by putting up various dance and music programmes and other cultural events and by providing the accommodation in tents to the Indian and foreign tourists.

Shopping in Pushkar
The bazaars of Pushkar are lined with an assortments of interesting small shops. The people can buy from these shops the silver and beaded jewellery, embroidered fabrics, bed sheets, cushion covers, Rajasthani puppets, books, etc.

The nearest airport from Pushkar is Jaipur.

By Rail
The nearest railway station from Pushkar is Ajmer, which is on the Broad Gauge and hence connected to all the metro cities of India.

By Road
An efficient network of bus services operate from Ajmer to Pushkar. Rajasthan Roadways also run very comfortable deluxe and air conditioned buses from Jaipur and cities in Rajasthan.
